Hello! My name is Conrad and this is my craft blog. I would love to see you all getting involved in crafts. It is my mission to spread information about how wonderful getting involved in a craft or hobby can be. For many years, I was always kind of bored and unhappy. However, all of that changed when I decided to sign up for a local craft course. I had a fantastic time and I suddenly found that I didn't feel so lonely and afraid anymore. Since then, I have learnt lots of cool things about crafts which I will share with you here.

Key Questions to Expect From a Custom Picture Framer

by Vanessa Alexander

Getting artwork or pictures custom framed often makes homeowners queasy with anticipation. You might wonder whether the cost of picture framing is too high or whether you are better of doing the framing yourself. However, there is nothing wrong with such apprehension, particularly if you own an expensive or sentimental piece of art. Fortunately, custom framers understand their craft and have the skills to ensure that your art gets the best frame. However, a professional custom framer will ask you a few questions before designing a frame. This article highlights key questions to expect in this regard.

Interior Décor

The last thing you want is a picture frame that sticks out like a sore thumb. Unfortunately, it is exactly what you expose yourself to if a custom framer starts implementation without asking about your interior décor. The first and arguably most important question a custom framer will ask regards the elements in your home's interior décor. For instance, they might ask about the wall colour where art or a picture will hang, the flooring design and the type of furniture you have. However, it does not mean that a custom framer must match a frame with the colour of your wall or sofa. It only gives them an excellent foundation to design a frame that blends well with most interior décor elements in your home.

Intended Display Location

Very few people think about the conditions of the location they plan to hang a piece of art or a picture. However, your preferred location is critical when engaging custom picture framing services. The reason is that different areas in your home have varying conditions that affect framing in different ways. For instance, you might want to hang a piece of artwork in your bathroom or kitchen. Notably, the moisture content in these rooms is high compared to other locations, and a custom frame must protect the art from moisture damage. Letting a custom framer know your intended display location helps them select the ideal hardware to preserve the picture inside.

Turnaround Time

Custom picture frames take time to design and produce. Therefore, you should not expect a framer to have your order ready in a day or two. However, it does not mean that professional framers take their sweet time making custom frames, which is why they need to know your preferred turnaround time. Inform them when you want the custom frame so that they can tell you if it is reasonable or not. It is particularly the case for artwork you want to issue on special occasions, such as birthdays and anniversaries. If you need an expedited turnaround time, you might have to pay extra.
